Who I am
Mabel Oakley features art from me, Beth Bishop. I’m UK-based artist that focuses on texture, colour and light.
Much of my inspiration comes from the sea - the turquoise and blue hues that are so captivating and pour so richly onto the canvas.
I’m also very led by the seasons, and every year come Spring, my colour palette becomes livelier, and will turn autumnal as the leaves change. I love responding to nature through art in this way; it feels like the most natural thing in the world.
I use a mixture of materials, including plaster, gesso, inks and acrylics. Pieces range from 30x40cm to 100x200cm. For larger pieces I sometimes recommend a diptych, as you get a sense of movement without the cost of a huge canvas.
My favourite part of each artwork is at the end, where I get to highlight all the glorious pockets of texture that have been created throughout the process.
